Tower & Peripherals – Cockpit update 6
I spent last week working on management issues like the mission statement I wrote about in my last post and think it worked at least from the inspiration standpoint cause this week I advanced a lot on the sim racing cockpit project.
I managed to set locations for an ATX mid-tower and most of the peripherals I planned, keeping everything nested into 2 boards, making it look even better than before, not fucking up any of the adjustments and kept it cool when combining different materials…
Looking back to my first post about the project, it’s amazing to appreciate the progress several months of creativity-rich, slow-paced development can deliver.
Regarding the peripherals, I extended the gear shifter mount to the right for the mouse, it’s great because that location is also adjustable.
For the headphones, controllers and VR headset I came up with a one-size-fits-all solution. I extended the screen table to both sides so it doubles as a “roof” and added hangers below so you can place or hang those devices below and reach them from the sitting position.
Check out the 360 of the latest version fresh from a few minutes ago.
I also thought about placing the tower behind the chair to keep it more compact, but on the other hand that would heavily complicate managing cables. So, if you have long cables and want the tower behind, the displayed placement is removable.
Still have to add a normal gaming console location but that’s a piece of cake, either next to the screen or below the headphones.
I ditched the lower support at the front because it won’t be necessary.
Still pending:
- Adapting the design to 3/4 inch material
- Adapting all plans for Shaper Origin SVG compatibility
- You still have time to suggest improvements here!
Regarding a time-frame, I think this could be ready within 3 weeks.
📅 Update 2021-11-09 – Made some adjustment video demos, check out my new Update 7.
Hell yes that wider screen support with the hangers below looks way better than the one on your last update congrats!
Indeed that change was awesome… It made it much cooler than I expected when I was drawing the parts. Thanks!
LOL definitely loving it a lot, keep it up!
