ModMaker v2 | Adjust on demand 📏
Hey everyone! Quick update on my latest feature upgrades and what I’ve been up to in March 25′. These last few weeks have been exciting, with a strong focus on refining the second iteration of my ModMaker tool – the engine that lets you customize our CNC-ready furniture plans before downloading. What about it I hear you ask? Much. ⬇️
ModMaker 2 is smoother, faster and more efficient.
I got tons of feedback and directed my efforts to refining the plan generation process and making your workflow even smoother and ModMaker more accessible. Now, here are the changes (some upcoming):
- Exclusive downloads source: I finished converting all my models to ModMaker so as I test it and ensure its stable, I’ll gradually phase out the regular plan downloads feature. I’m neck deep into this transition and it’s a difficult one so expect a few errors, and plenty of awesome changes.
- Use ModMaker without Maker’s PASS: Considering the previous point, I’m also developing a way for users to use ModMaker on demand. More on that later.
- Parallel DXF & SVG generation: Bye bye format limitations. Just generate the plan and download both formats, back them up and use them wherever you need.
- Optimized Toolpaths: ModMaker now defaults to a 1/4″ end mill for all cuts, providing a solid starting point for most projects. I’m also working on an input to increment the minimum concave curves radius, so you can easily adjust the plan for a larger bit for faster feed rates or 1-pass cuts (already available for the testing set, playDesk2 and zTandingDesk).
- Cleaner plans: Following the keep it simple principle, I removed redundant vectors and unnecessary layer specs. This means cleaner toolpaths focused on the core joinery of your furniture. Less complexity, faster cutting!
- More Designs: As I mentioned before, I finished converting my remaining designs – the Cowork Table, deskBed and zTandingDesk. They now offer adjustable parameters for material specs, dimensions, and even corner radius, giving you more control.
- Standard bed on the way: I’ll soon revisit my 2019 bed project Starting my first Bed with the objective of getting an entire bed (with adjustable mattress size) out of a single 4 x 8 ft board adjustable via ModMaker. Not easy but I’m up to the challenge.

Introducing “Mods”: ModMaker on demand (coming soon!)
I know that while our Maker’s PASS unlimited downloads offers the most value, it’s not always the right fit for everyone. That’s why I’m implementing a new system of credits called “Mods”.
Mods will allow you to get a pack and use them generating customized CNC plans via ModMaker, without needing the full, unlimited Maker’s PASS subscription. This gives you the flexibility to:
- Customize Only What You Need: Pay only for the specific models and modifications you generate.
- Try Before You Subscribe: Get a feel for ModMaker’s power and the quality of our designs before committing to a full subscription.
- Control Your Budget: Purchase Mods as needed, keeping your expenses aligned with your project flow.
We’re incredibly excited about the Mods system and believe it will make turnifure.com even more accessible and valuable to the maker community.
Next steps: finish testing the “mods” back-end, launch a mods pack and add hundreds of new designs.
I’ll release the first mods pack soon so stay tuned!
In the meantime, explore our existing Models and start imagining the possibilities!
We can’t wait to see what you create.
📅 Update 2025-04-01 – New ModMaker is live! (beta).
As of today you can get access to the new ModMaker tool. It’s still in beta but stable and I wanted to launch it so you help me find the last few bugs.
Terms as follows:
– Anonymous users can only generate the free test piece.
– Logged-in users with zero Mods balance can only generate the free test piece.
– Logged-in users can purchase Mod Packs and use them to generate plans at their cost.
– Maker’s PASS subscribers can generate unlimited plans and versions.
Hello Javier! been following for years and it’s been awesome seen your platform’s evolution. The new Mods system sounds like a great flexible option. For someone who might build maybe 2-3 different furniture pieces over a year, would you generally recommend grabbing a Mod Pack as needed, or does the Maker’s PASS still offer better value in that scenario? Trying to gauge the best fit.
Hey Jona! thanks for writing! It’s been quite a journey but still, way to go 😅.
I didn’t answer you before because I was considering changing the current Mod Packs system that is kinda complicated to a simpler one where you unlock the model for a fixed amount (to-be-decided) and unlocking includes the commercial license and some of amount mods (also to-be-decided). If you run out of mods you can get a pack for a few bucks. That way, 1 mod is 1 plan generation which removes the “complicated” part.
I’m aiming to set the unlocking price at USD 50 and include 5 mods so for your case I’d expect Maker’s PASS (at the current price) to be the most convenient option as it would unlock all models with unlimited mods. I do expect Maker’s PASS to go up in price, as I add more models. Hope that helps!
