Racing rig prototype done | Update 9
After 2 months I finally got the racing rig prototype done! 🎉
Having waited for that long it felt like having a son 🤣… went to the fab and taped it. This was end of the cutting process:
The assembly was fairly easy, took me like 30 minutes but with a little help I’d have done it faster.
As usual, no matter how many times you check the plans, there will be errors. I found 2 screw-ups (which is pretty good), and some improvement opportunities.
The main aspect I wanted to test is structural rigidity. When you race hard, your wheel, shifter and pedals take some abuse and that force is transferred to the mounts and dissipated through the entire rig so I want it sturdier than any regular furniture. Luckily it came out way stronger than I anticipated, rock solid with or without the screws and t-nuts.
The two screw-ups I made were on the steering wheel height lock mechanism and on the pedals depth adjustment which won’t reach Pos 1 because of a really stupid mistake I made on a rail below the platform 🤬🤬🤬. Both fixed now ☑️.
On the improvement opportunities side, I decided to redesign the pedals mount locking mechanism (in case a hard brake goes too far 🤣), I’ll add compatibility with most Fanatec and Thrustmaster racing gear, probably also the Logitech flight yoke system so pilots are covered and some other redesigns, mostly styling stuff.
A friend came up with the idea of adding a glass holder on the left peripheral table to legally enjoy a cold one; while sim-driving 🤣. Would u use a cup holder? let me know here!

In the next few days I’ll finish the production version plans and continue discussing partnerships with makers so anyone can get the rig shipped home directly from here.

Looks awesome! great to know you’ll be making it compatible with Thrustmaster coz I have a T300. When will you be able to deliver in the US?
Hey Dave! yeah I initially thought Logitech was 99% of the market but got convinced otherwise. With a few adjustments it’ll be compatible with the inclined Logitech and Thrustmaster wheels and also horizontal ones like the Fanatec CSL. Also added the mounting holes for the most common gear like the G29 and your T300.
I don’t yet know when I’ll deliver in the US but I’m on it… hopefully in a few weeks! stay tuned!

Exciting! Have you experimented at all with how it works for space/flight sims? I’m specifically looking to make up to three cockpits (eventually, once kids get a bit bigger), with plans for joysticks on both sides. Also would like to do a 3 monitor setup experiment. I’m a woodworker and also have a small cnc, so let me know if I can order one or grab the plans or prototype any flight-specific concepts.
Hello Jay! haven’t experimented with flight simulation yet but I revamped the design for compatibility with horizontally mounted wheels (or yokes) since the prototype. It should work great. The joysticks on both sides were covered already. Fuck I’d love to see that setup. Regarding the plans, I’ll not be releasing or selling them because I haven’t had a good experience with that but will be offering finished units in the US soon. I’ll let you know.

Oi Jackson! Thank you! I’m sorry I haven’t been able to work on this for a few months because I’ve been super busy with other stuff. I’m eager to get back in track though. My plan upon return is to get some quotations and sell finished units. I’ll let you know when a Brazilian maker’s on board.
