Get a Flawless Cut in 10 Steps

Our parametric engine ensures your joinery is perfect, regardless of your material thickness.

  1. Measure Up: Use calipers to precisely measure your material thickness (e.g., 17.8mm).
  2. Test the Fit (Free): Go to Calibration Set > ModMaker. Input your thickness and generate the file for free.
  3. Cut Your Sample: CNC cut the test pieces using your actual material and cutting bit.
  4. Understand the Inserts:

    • Tight Inserts: For permanent, rock-solid assembly.
    • Loose Inserts: For moving parts (like on the playDesk2 or Rockpit).
  5. Check the “Dot” Count: Test the sample fits. Each “dot” engraved on the test piece adds +0.05mm to the slot width. Find which dot count fits best.
  6. Save Your Magic Number: Write down the dot count for your perfect tight fit (and loose fit if applicable).
  7. Configure Your Furniture: Head to your desired model’s page. In ModMaker, input your dimensions and your saved “Magic Number” (tolerance).
  8. Generate & Download: Click Generate. Download your custom DXF & SVG files immediately.
Note: Save them now! We don’t store generated files on the server.
  9. Cut & Assemble: Run your file, assemble your furniture, and admire the perfect friction fit.
  10. Show Off: We love seeing your builds! Send us photos to be featured in our gallery.

Quick Notes:

  • Pass Validity: Maker’s PASS lasts for one full year. No auto-renewals.
  • Commercial Use: You are free to sell physical furniture made from these plans while your PASS is active.
  • Legacy Users: If you bought static plans in the past, log in—you still have full access to them.

Happy Modding!

Hey Javier! huge congratulations to you and your team for the incredible work on ModMaker — I can see how much effort and passion went into building it. It’s already looking amazing, and I’m sure it’s going to be a game-changer for many of us in the laser art community.
As someone who has worked extensively with SolidWorks and Fusion 360, I understand how much time and complexity are involved in creating precise models so I’m relly impressed — while platforms like Makercase are limited to simple laser-cut boxes, ModMaker allows users to modify complex designs in just a few clicks. That’s an outstanding achievement!
Looking forward to what’s coming next!

This was a fantastic upgrade, Javier. Being able to dial in the exact material thickness is a huge time saver – we just ran a test piece on 18.5 mm Baltic Birch and the tight insert setting was spot-on. We’re using a tweaked Cowork Table design for a client’s office fit-out. The integrated cable management is a huge selling point. Great work.

Hi Maria, GRACIAS! I’ll answer in English so everyone can follow along. Option 2 is correct. The Mods themselves don’t expire, but your access to each model does after one year. As long as you have any actively unlocked model, you can use your Mods on it.
I see you’ve already unlocked the Rockpit. Just be sure to use your Mods before your access expires. And if you’re building commercially, just renew the unlock to keep your license active.
      Thanks for your support!

Hey, congrats on the ModMaker tool, it’s indeed impressive. Just a tip for new designs. I made the original playDesk out of 3/4 MDF and its structure got compromised in just a few months. The inserts were very tight and it was rock solid right out of the box but daily use caused the MDF around the inserts to lose rigidity and had to keep adding my own reinforcements to keep it stable. I’d definitely recommend adding some hardware anchors in key structural spots, like the ones on the Rockpit. Way to go.

    • Javier on 2025-06-09 at 10:03 AM

Hello Mat, thanks for the feedback! Yep, the original playDesk had that structural issue and it was mostly solved with playDesk2. With MDF it’s not 100% bulletproof though and I always recommend Plywood. Future designs will definitely include the Bolt + TNut combo anchors in critical joints.
      Thanks!!!
